常见的加拿大联邦成文法令法规中用于表示层级结构的术语并不复杂，仅在某些条文中可以达到八层之多。这八个术语从上到下分别是：part、division、section、subsection、paragraph、subparagraph、clause、subclause。在中文里，这些术语并没有统一的命名规范。以中文为官方语言的各个司法管辖区通常采用自己约定俗成的方式翻译。譬如最常见的section，香港翻译为“条”，台湾翻译为“节”；或者再如paragraph，香港翻译为“段”，台湾翻译为“项”。这些翻译的用字在本质上并没有对错之分，但是中文读者在阅读时应特别留意相关文字所归属的司法管辖区，以避免歧义。
在研读加拿大成文法规的过程中，牛顿意识这些术语在中文里翻译标准的不统一而可能带来的歧义，于是整理出一张术语翻译的对照表，仅供我个人遵守使用，当然也欢迎其他说中文的加拿大法律从业者们参考。如果读者在我的博客或是其他平台上读到听到我使用这些中文的层级术语，就可以根据这张表对照推导出英文原文。鉴于香港和加拿大同属于普通法领域，所以我的大部分翻译都参考香港的成文法规中的用字。
首先，我们从加拿大移民及难民保护法规（IRPR）中找一个具有代表性的包含八个层级的条文的例子：section 133。这条法规规定了家庭类团聚移民中作为担保人（sponsor）所必须达到的若干要求，其本身归属于IRPR的Part 6下的Division 3。其中的IRPR s. 133(1)(j)(i)(B)(I)、(II)、和(III)就是第八级的subclauses。现在我们根据这八个层级结合R133的例文做一张对照表。

除了上述八个常见层级术语，成文法规里也会偶见preamble，比如《加拿大权利与自由宪章》开篇第一句话：“Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law”（认可上帝至高性和法治乃是加拿大的立国之本）。这里的preamble可以译作“弁言”。
在弁言及法规正文以外，在成文法规的尾部也常见各种附加表格清单等内容，也会涉及到一些和表格相关的术语。这些专有词汇可以这样翻译：schedule——“附表”、table——“表格”、form——“表单”、item——“元素”、等等。
